Files stay on your device

PDF, JPG, PNG and WebP. Paste with Ctrl+V.

100% local — the file never leaves your device

How to use it

  1. Drop the PDF, or tap to choose it.
  2. Press Compress PDF: the plan is shown in words before anything starts.
  3. When it is done you see the size before and after, and the checks run on the new file. Then download it.
  4. For a precise target, write it in the box, for example “compress under 1 MB”.

Examples to write in the box: compress under 1 MB, compress pdf under 500 kb

Limits and compatibility

  • It works on the images inside the PDF. A PDF made only of text has little to shrink, and may come out almost the same size.
  • Images are brought to 150 DPI and JPEG quality 75. Fine detail in photos can soften; text and vector drawings stay as they are.
  • Some images are left exactly as they are: CMYK, indexed colours, JBIG2, JPEG 2000, 16 bit, and images with special masks.
  • If the new file is not smaller, you get the original back, and the numbers say so.
  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened.
  • If a target cannot be reached, you get the smallest file produced and the weight check shows “not passed” with the real size.

Privacy

The page downloads its code once. After that, your files are read and written inside this browser tab: nothing is uploaded, and no request leaves the page while the work runs. An automated browser test checks the network log for this.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my PDF barely get smaller?

Usually because it contains little or no images: text and fonts are not recompressed. It also happens when the images are already strongly compressed, or are of a kind that is left untouched (CMYK, JBIG2, JPEG 2000).

Will the text stay sharp?

Yes. Only images are rewritten; text, fonts and vector drawings are copied as they are.

Can I ask for a specific size?

Yes: write for example “compress under 2 MB”. The tool lowers image quality and resolution step by step and measures the file each time. If the target cannot be reached, it tells you the size it did reach.

What happens with a password-protected PDF?

It is not opened, and you see a message saying so. Remove the protection in the app that created it, then try again.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. It is processed in your browser tab, and your original file is never modified.
