Limits and compatibility
- Pages are drawn at 150 DPI with JPEG quality 85: an A4 page becomes about 1240 × 1754 pixels.
- It needs a browser that can draw in the background, such as a recent Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Where the browser cannot, the action is not offered and a message explains why; in the WebKit engine used by Safari it was not available in our tests.
- Text that uses fonts not included in the PDF may look slightly different from other viewers.
- Pages are drawn one at a time; a page too large for the memory of the device stops the work with a message.
- Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened.
Privacy
The page downloads its code once. After that, your files are read and written inside this browser tab: nothing is uploaded, and no request leaves the page while the work runs. An automated browser test checks the network log for this.
Frequently asked questions
What resolution are the images?
150 DPI. An A4 page comes out at about 1240 × 1754 pixels, enough to read it on screen.
Can I convert only some pages?
Yes: write for example “pages 1-2 to jpg” in the box.
Can I get PNG instead of JPG?
Yes: write “pdf to png” in the box.
Why does a page look different from my PDF reader?
Usually because the PDF uses a font it does not include, and the drawing falls back to a similar one.
